MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN

CHALLENGE

A 15+ year plus client/agency relationship is a rarity. Especially in an industry that has seen business models change as frequently and drastically as mountain tourism. From the advent of the multi-resort season pass to ownership changes and an era of massive consolidation to the pandemic, paradigm shifting change has been a constant for ski resorts.
The media covering the space, subject to many of the same market forces has seen similar amounts of change.

SOLUTIONS

To succeed in the space you have to know what works today while knowing what will work tomorrow. In short, the solution has been flexibility and anticipation:

  • BluBird killed the press release. Building a strategy around more timely communications leveraging contributed content as a more engaging and powerful tool for media outreach.
  • Made Mother Nature the greatest communications advocate with our snow and broadcast strategy. And if she doesn’t help? BluBird created a “snow proof” strategy for that, building on the strengths of the best video and photo content creation team in the business.
  • Focused on the regional audience, making Mammoth news so important to the Southern California audience, the largest ski market in the world, that the national media had to pay attention.
  • Played to the resort’s strengths, resisting the temptation to put our chips in the luxury travel basket, instead focusing on the incredible on-hill experience, which has appeal to every budget.
  • Lengthened the season, burnishing Mammoth’s reputation as the spring skiing capital of North America with multiple national news cycles that featured skiing in Mammoth on the Fourth of July.

TESTIMONIAL

We’ve worked with their team for over a decade. Our industry has changed completely during that time and so has much of our core business, but their value to us has remained a constant. It’s a testament to their ability to evolve and anticipate change.
